We want to expand the space, get tons more equipment (maybe even a comic printing machine???), create a digital lounge separate from the makerspace section, do even bigger and crazier events, do more classes and more workshops, expand our retail selection, a quarterly indie comics market... And much more.

Trust us; We have big, big plans.
Where did this place come from?
The School of Comics began when Laguna Studios moved to a larger warehouse with a front area that they had no use for - And so they found a use for it.
​
Erik's vision for this place was to create a literal School of Comics, as well as a third space for young artists to access tools and supplies that they otherwise wouldn't be able to. Essentially, his dream was to create a place that he would have loved to have as a teenager.

OUR MISSION
from LAGUNA STUDIOS...
Laguna Studios is an indie comic publisher (and 3PL fulfillment partner for indie artists/authors) with a passion for misfit heroes, platforming diverse voices, and putting artists first. It's what planted the seed for the School of Comics, and our warehouse operates out of the same building.

Our mission at Laguna Studios is to bring independent comics to the mainstream, much like the indie animation revolution currently happening. We also want to give a voice to young, upcoming artists with styles that defy the popular ideals of a "comic book" art style; Art that no traditional publisher would think to pick up, despite glowing audience reception.
​
We're an official Kickstarter partner, and have run countless successful crowdfunding campaigns to bring artists' creations to print. When artists want to make their comic into a reality and don't know where to start - We want to be the people that they turn to.
a school & third space
We want the School of Comics to become just that - A real school, all about comics. Of course, we'll still keep our creativespace, workshops, events, and all that, but going forward our classes will have a more traditional school structure (and there'll be more of them, of course).

Our goal is to become a third space for the artists that don't have one. Especially in the modern age, most artists can only turn to online community, and thus spend most of their time sequestered away in their rooms hunched over a tablet or canvas.
​
We're for the artists that traditional establishments often overlook; The digital artists, the comic artists, the animators, the cosplay-makers, the upcyclers, the convention artists, etc etc etc. We want to empower independent storytellers, creatives, and entrepreneurs during an age when self-employment through art can be both so close and so far out of reach.
​
Artists deserve more than just a space to create; They deserve a place to belong, be seen, and thrive.
THE INDIE COMICS PIPELINE
With the School of Comics and Laguna Studios, we have a very unique opportunity. We want to create a pipeline; We can do the teaching (not just of the art side, but the marketing and entrepreneurship side of the coin as well), the publishing, and the fulfillment, all in one place. That way, artists no longer have to flounder trying to figure out where to go or who to work with - You can just do it all here!

That's the ultimate end goal for us.
last but not least...
Our dream is to open up several locations all over the country to bring the School of Comics to a wider audience. With a few more years and some help from donations, sponsorships, and grants, we just might get there.

MEET THE TEAM
Laurie Foster
co-founder
Laurie is the co-founder and the one that keeps everything from falling apart; She deals with the logistics and business parts.
She's been drawing for more than 15 years and professionally inking for eight. She is also a writer, graphic designer, editor, and cosplayer!
She runs Laguna Studios, her and Erik's first business venture, and the business that funds all of this cool stuff.
Kire Lestat (Erik)
founder
You'll see him around the studio often! This guy is the whole reason this place even exists!
Erik is a professional artist with over 25 years of experience - Plus: a punk, musician, personal trainer, and cat lover. He wants to make a place straight out of his own teenage dreams - For the teenagers of today, and for the guys like him that never grew up.

FUN FACT: He used to drive a hearse!
Wolfgang Graves
director of marketing
I'm the graphic designer/website guy/social media manager... AKA the face of the School of Comics. I really like sci-fi, horror, and anything vintage/retro/weird.
Currently working on a psychological-horror animated series, Devil's Worseworld, and a cyberpunk comic, Cybersectarian.
Angel Ortiz
general manager
Angel is our super awesome general manager/event manager/people person that mans the front desk!

Of course, he's also an artist, currently working on his comic, Brujas!
