Deece Casillas
fundamentals of visual storytelling
Deece Casillas is a writer and internationally touring stand-up comedian, with 20 years of experience.
​
He was a regular writer for the website Points- In-Case, two-time winner of the 50 Hour Film Festival, has written in TV, film, and sketch; published his first full-length book in 2010, and in 2024 released his indie comic book series, KILL STAN, which has sold over 10 thousand copies to date.
​
Deece is currently teaching our Comics A-Z class, which has almost completed its first round!

Award-winning writer and filmmaker working across books, comics, journalism, film, and digital media.

Creator of award-recognized comic storytelling, including the Ringo Awards-nominated series The Ghoul Agency, and contributor to the Eisner Awards-winning anthology Puerto Rico Strong.

He's known for delivering compelling, research-driven storytelling across multiple formats while maintaining rigorous editorial standards and production deadlines.

Angel Ortiz is a manager here at the School of Comics, as well as a comic artist (Currently working on his comic, Brujas), character designer, and merch designer for musicians around San Antonio.

He hosts our monthly live figure drawing nights, and will soon be teaching a class of his own going over character design, environments, and anatomy.

Foster
inking pages
Laurie Foster has been professionally inking for eight years now, and is also a writer, graphic designer, editor, and cosplayer.
​
She founded Laguna Studios, the business that came before the School of Comics. They create & publish their own indie comics, as well as dealing with fulfillment for indie artists and authors.

Wolfgang Graves is the marketing director and graphic designer here at the School of Comics. He's currently creating his 3D-animated series, Devil's Worseworld, as well as his comic, Cybersectarian.

While being an artist of many titles, Wolfgang also has a keen eye for the lesser-understood aspects of being a successful artist: Marketing, business, and social media.
​
His upcoming classes are focused on giving artists a fundamental understanding of what goes into marketing your art and growing your platform.

mindfulness through art
Kai is a designer and former scientist that has found doodling to be a valuable part of her mindfulness practice. She focuses on creative experimentation and the process of making art.

The goal of her monthly workshop, Mindfulness Through Art, is to help anyone burdened with self-judgement, shame, or creative paralysis.
